PSE uses the M5 bottom metal inlet and we recommend the Hawkins Precision Hunter DBM & Flush Mag system.
Selecting the right configuration for your needs:
Action Inlet:
PSE Evolution Stocks molded for Remington 700 Footprint actions will accommodate actions using the Remington 700 Footprint. If your action uses a Trigger-hanger (American Rifle Co. CDG), you will need to cut a small relief for the hanger and mounting screw directly in front of the rear action screw.
Simply Select Short or Long action and the orientation of the bolt-handle. If you use a Right-bolt Left-port, make sure to select right-hand for the respective bolt-handle location.
Bolt Notch:
The Bolt-Notch can be ordered in a Swept or Straight configuration; actions such as Defiance, Stiller, and Remington 700 will look nice with the Swept Notch. Actions with 90 degree bolt-handles, with no rearward sweep or bend in the handle will look best with the Straight Notch.
Barrel Channel:
We offer two Barrel Channels for the Evolution Stock; the Standard Barrel Channel will fit up to a Varmint contour and is suited for steel hunting/ sporter contours. The Wide Barrel Channel is design to accommodate Carbon Wrapped barrels and Proof Sendero contours.
Color:
The color option allows you to select from a variety of standard PSE Carbon Visual Paint Patterns. If you are seeking out something a little different, please contact us OR you can select "Matte Carbon" and have your Gunsmith/ Cerakote shop custom paint the stock to suite your needs.
Sling Attachments:
There are a variety of sling attachment options to consider when setting up your new build; in some cases, the sling attachment point you need for the forend can be added when installing an ARCA or Combo Rail. When in doubt, I suggest having the QD Flush Cups installed on the side of the stock opposite the bolt handle. Example: if you order a Short Action Right-hand stock, the QD Flush Cups will be installed on the Left-side of the stock; one QD Cup will be installed toward the tip of the forend while the other will be installed near the recoil pad on the left-side of the buttstock.
ARCA & PIC Rails:
With so many options out there, this is probably the most debated option to choose; hope this helps a bit...
ARCA & PIC Rails serve as mounting points for Bipods and Tripods; as I mentioned before, some rails will also have sling mounting points, such as the SRS ARCA + PIC. Given your hunting style and potential future hunts, it can be helpful to consider what you may use the rifle for before selecting the correct option. Many western hunts will be in terrain that can limit prone shooting and may have limited props/ stable shooting platforms for resting your rifle; for those reasons, more and more hunters are leaning toward tripods for stable shooting support.
There are a couple trains of thought when it comes to tripod shooting, and for me, I opt for running my tripod further out on the forend rather than at the balance point of the rifle. I choose to shoot with the tripod further out for a couple reasons but mainly since I brace my support-hand against the ball-head, which aids in recoil management and stability. To accomplish this, the tripod must be attached further out to accommodate my long reach. So for me, an SRS ARCA+PIC rail is a perfect solution to mount my ATLAS Bipod in front and allow me to quickly mount the rifle on the tripod without the requirement of removing the bipod.
If you shoot better with the tripod attached near/ at the balance point of the rifle, selecting the SRS Balance ARCA may be a suitable solution with minimal added weight. However, it's important to also consider a bipod mounting solution, just in case you want to do a little prone shooting.
I'm often asked about full length ARCA Rails, and if they are needed; they are not 100% needed, but they do offer the most flexibility and maximize the usable space on the forend. By that I mean, you can mount the tripod at any point along the forend and if the animal moves, and you need to adjust your body position, you will have more adjustability fore and aft than with other mounting solutions.
Bottom-line, when in doubt I would suggest adding the threaded inserts for either the SRS Balance ARCA or other Full Length ARCA. If the option you want is not listed, select "Threaded inserts of a different configuration (Provide Details in Order Notes Below)" and tell us in the notes what rail you wish to use. Please note: we may not be able to accommodate all ARCA Rails.
Spartan Adapters:
Spartan Adapters can be added in a couple locations on the forend and are specifically intended for use with Spartan Precision Bipods and Tripods. We can also install Spartan Adapters in concert with other bipod mounting solutions like the PSE Short PIC Rail in the case you want the option to run a PIC Mounted Bipod and/ or a Spartan Bipod. In this instance, we typically install the Spartan Adapter directly behind the PSE Short PIC Rail. One consideration with Spartan Adapters is when they are installed, they sit slightly elevated in respect to the bottom-line of the stock. In other words, their location must be carefully considered so adapter(s) do not interfere with other rails.
Length of Pull (LOP) Spacers:
PSE Stocks come standard with (1) LOP Spacer installed, allowing you to adjust the LOP shorter if needed. The LOP spacers measure .300" each, and can be stacked up to (4).
